CARBON NEUTRAL DRONE SERVICES IN SOUTHERN FINLAND

The objective of the project is to pilot and promote drone service solutions supporting low-carbon operations, both for the needs of the logistics field and as new forms of business to replace transport methods powered by combustion engines.

In the project, innovative drone solutions and new, ecologically friendlier modes of transport and transportation will be designed through shared development workshops. The objective is to promote the development of low-carbon business and the networking of companies producing and buying drone services through creating new business models. In addition to logistics solutions, we will test e.g. remote security solutions, long-distance logistic transportations and the possibilities of utilising 5G technology.

The project is a part of a project family launched simultaneously as three separate project units in four different areas (Uusimaa, Kymenlaakso, Northern Ostrobothnia and Lapland). These projects will partly implement similar experiments. Active cooperation between all these different projects enables cooperation in planning test flights, sharing experiences and information, and networking between the companies. The project also supports the carbon-neutrality objectives of Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso regions.

The project period is from 1 September 2019 to 31 December 2021. The project’s main implementor is Forum Virium Helsinki and the sub-implementors are Posintra Oy and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk).

The project budget is €789,144. The project sponsor is European Regional Development Fund ERDF.
